Matelassé Quilting Shows Wear Differently Than Smooth Leather
The diamond-quilted matelassé leather is soft and slouchy by design, which makes it more prone to surface creasing and shape relaxation than structured smooth leather. Some softening is expected and part of the design. What to watch for is quilting that's gone flat or lost definition in specific spots, uneven puffing between panels, or stitching that's pulled loose at seam intersections — these affect both look and structural integrity, not just cosmetics.
The Y Hardware Clasp Is Both Signature and Stress Point
The interlocking "Y" hardware clasp at the front flap is the bag's most recognizable design element and also a functional closure that gets used every time the bag is opened.
